4th of July Sale Guide

Happy 4th of July! Whether you’re having a stay cation to enjoy the holiday or adventured out to the beach or lake I hope you find time to get your inboxes to zero, unplug, and recharge!

Before we left for our trip I took a quick snapshot of what I packed, mostly casual outfits I could coordinate in different ways. I mixed up some of my older pieces with new and chose sandals that I could mix and match to keep my packing light and easy.

Spring Bar Cart

IMG_5992.jpg

Happy first day of spring! How I have been waiting for this day, since winter was taking more than 4 months to pass by! Thanks east coast 🙄I have been looking forward to having a major spring cleaning haul and updating our space with some new spring items. I realized I actually didn’t own much holiday decor for Easter, which is ironic because so many of the pastel colors that come with spring are totally my vibe!  I have been looking for small pieces that work within our space already that add an extra touch and trying not to go overboard. Space is of the essence here in NYC and I feel like I’m already overflowing ! I’m usually not into bunnies or chicks this time of year for Easter decor, but  I do love giving everything a light & clean refreshed feel for the spring season. We are getting so much more natural light and with daylight savings we’re enjoying it! Now I can’t wait until we can be back to summer grilling on the rooftop.

I’ve finally been able to keep my pitcher full of fresh flowers (thanks Trader Joe’s you had me at $6 bouquets)  I rotate them almost weekly and  they brighten up our space with a touch of color. I did grab a few home decor pieces at Marshall’s and Homegoods while on errands last week and tucked them on my bar cart for now. That’s where I found the adorable carrot cocktail napkins, and golden speckled eggs, and wooden bunny! I’ve been eyeing some pillow covers & fresh throws for spring. Etsy has some great pillow case options so I don’t have to invest in new pillows. Since our new couch came with two I have been covering them with pillow covers from pottery barn / Etsy.  Since it is our first spring here I’ve been careful about what pieces I want to keep out or rotate seasonally. I’ve been thinking of updating our  table tray / coffee table so searching for some new ideas and open to feedback! I believe it’s one thing at a time when in a new space,  but I am itching to have mostly everything finished. I still have photos to finish printing from our wedding on one of our walls.

I’m sharing all the details to my spring bar cart update in the widget and links below. My bar cart is easy to theme since it’s acrylic I found it here. I thought the string lights with spring garland were the perfect touch and they light up! I just had to get them for under $6 at Target.  Now it’s time for the weather on the east coast to start doing it’s part to feel like it outside, as much as I bring spring inside!

Hope everyone enjoys the spring bar car reveal. I made it clean & easy for now, but thinking of adding a banner or one near the window to welcome spring. As I update it more I would love to hear your comments and feedback!

Heart Cutout Cookie Recipe

FullSizeRender.jpg

One of my favorite recipes from my family is my Mom’s tried and true cut out cookies. They’re more of an almond shortbread cookie than sugar cookie, and basically melt in your mouth. So good and sweet! Before reading any further, this is definitely not one of my healthy recipe shares, but it is one that will dance on anyone’s heart or tastebuds. I frost them with my mom’s wedding cake frosting!

These cutouts make for a sweet treat for your Gal-entine’s Day gathering (or Valentines Day dessert with your other half). The recipe makes a ton, so I always end up giving a bunch to friends & family for Valentine’s Day. I’ve also linked all of my baking essentials and table top details below. By far my favorite kitchen tool is our Kitchenaid electric mixer. It was a gift from my mama from our wedding registry and it is so easy to use and efficient! We even have all of the pasta making, veggie slicing, and food processor attachments to use so it doesn’t have to be just for baking! We have the azure blue which adds the perfect pop to our white kitchen.

Dough

4 1/2 c. flour

2/3 c. confectioner’s sugar

1/3 c. light brown sugar

1 tsp. almond extract

2 cups butter, softened

Directions

1. Mix together sugars, butter, and almond extract with electric mixer for two minutes until mixed.

2. Gradually add in flour & mix. Save the 1/2 cup of flour to roll out dough & for cookie cutter.

3. Once dough is mixed & softened roll into 2 large balls.

4. Sprinkle counter, rolling pin with flour, and cookie cutter with extra flour.

5. Roll out dough to 1/2” thick then press cut out into dough.

6. Place cookies on parchment paper 1/2” apart & bake 10-12 minutes at 300 F.

7. Let fully cool before frosting. Yields 24 cookies.

Frosting

1/2 bag confectioner’s sugar

1 tsp Crisco (if no crisco add more milk)

1/4 cup milk

1 tsp. vanilla or almond extract

Directions

1. Add milk & vanilla extract to the confectionary sugar . Continue mixing until smooth & creamy like yogurt.

2. Section into bowls if adding food coloring and frost!
